Shoemaker flying down from Waiheke Island to teach leather workshops

South African, boot maker trained in London, Waiheke Island dwelling shoemaker Sue Engels is returning to stay with us on the farm and teach a leather sandal workshop to the grown ups and a leather belt class to the kids the next day - 17th and 18th September.  Now is the time to prepare for summer with your very own, fit like a glove, sandals or impress your friends with a handmade belt of your very own.  If you haven’t felt the sensation of cutting leather yet, you’ve got to come to one of these classes, it’s like cutting butter!

Mark Johnsen Artist in Residence

Ventana’s first Artist in Residence will be coming from overseas next month.  Mark Johnsen, a master printmaker from the Bay Area in California will be showing us how to make beautiful prints of our own and having a solo show of his monotype landscapes for sale.  They are totally alluring pieces of work, be sure to come see him at work while he is here 27 September-17 October.  Mark will post up at Ventana to teach 2 workshops as well as work on his etchings during our business hours.  In the meantime, you can see him at work in this amazing video.
